The PLG assists in setting the correct platen height and accurate and consistent platen level from front to back and side to side.
This gauge mounts to the machine as a Squeegee or flood bar attaches. Once it is mounted to the carriage, the gauge can be adjusted level by turning the squeegee up and down knobs on the left and right side of the carriage of the press until the bubble on the spirit level on the gauge reads level.
The overall height must also be set to allow the gauge to work in the range of your press settings. A included Go, No Go gauge assists in raising or lowering the squeegee bar so that the gauge is safely installed with the reading area adjusted properly, After that, the carriage can be moved from front to back by hand to check the overall platen level condition. Instructions are given on how to install plugs on some air-driven machines to allow freedom of travel. These workarounds are quick and easy to accomplish.
The beauty of this device is that it shows the condition of the level in a very visual way. Making adjustments exponentially easier than any other method. Using the edge of a floating bar “represents” the entire platen width, not just a pinpoint area, as is the case when using dial indicators. Dial indicators not only “see” just a pinprick of an area, but they also are not “relatable” to the user as movements on the dial are hard to relate to physical distance mentally. How many people know what .17″ looks like without thinking about it. “thinking about it” includes reading four dial indicators and making calculations/conclusions while adjusting.
Adjusting one leveling screw affects more than one area of a platen; thus, a person can get a headache and a brain ache constantly trying to focus on small increments on four dials which only read very small areas. A bent or warped platen can drive a person crazy since it is impossible to level correctly. The Floating bar system immediately alerts you to these conditions since it reads across a much larger surface, preventing you from spending exhausting time in vein. It also lets you pick an average much easier if you choose to keep your imperfect platen in use.
The Platen Level Gauge:
Artwork registration problems often do not result from your press needing a registration tune-up but rather a platen-level tune-up. Why not buy a tool that will identify the problem and the extent of the problem and make correcting it much easier and faster? One unsatisfied customer will likely cost you more than the tool you need to prevent it.
The RPM Level gauge makes adjusting your press platens extremely easier than any other method by providing a set of LED edge-lit colored lines that sandwich a center edge-lit Green line. The user can easily see when a “floating” black line covers the green line, indicating that the platen is level. The black line is part of a “floating” clear plexiglass strip that sits on its edge on the platen surface. Thus, the black line accurately represents your platen level condition. As you make adjustments to the platen, that, in turn, changes the black line’s relationship to the colored lines until the green line disappears, indicating a “level” condition.
